Spain vs. Uruguay - Odds and Preview - FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 - 16/06/2013

Update: Final Score: 2-1

Spain vs. Uruguay - Matchup and Country FlagsSpain and Uruguay meet in the FIFA Confederations Cup - Group B match taking place on June 16th, 2013 at Arena Pernambuco in Recife, Brazil.

Spain technically qualified for the Confederations Cup twice, being the current World Cup and the European Cup champions, while Uruguay got their in by winning the Copa América.

Both Spain and Uruguay are strong sides with several star players on their teams. Luis Suarez and Edison Cavani from Uruguay are some of the hottest properties in the upcoming summer transfer market, while the Spanish team is stacked top to bottom with superstars such as Sergio Ramos, Iniesta, Xavi, Fernando Torres and Juan Mata.

Spain and Uruguay have met nine times already throughout all competitions. Spain won the contest four times and the two teams drew five times. Uruguay is yet to win a match against Spain.

Spain are in fine form these days leading the pack in Group I of the World Cup qualifiers ahead of France, Finland, Georgia and Belarus. Spain's last game was a big 0-1 victory vs. France in Paris.

Uruguay are struggling a little in their World Cup qualifying group. After eleven matches played, they are in 6th place behind Argentina, Ecuador, Colombia, Chile and Venezuela and ahead of Peru, Bolivia and Paraguay. Uruguay will have to perform in their last five group matches in order to directly qualify to the World Cup.

Lets take a look at the odds for the upcoming Confederations Cup match:

Spain: 8/15
Draw: 29/10
Uruguay: 11/2

Spain are the favourites. A $100 bet on Spain could return $53 in profit, while the same bet on Uruguay could return $550.

The most likely scores, according to the odds, are a 1-0 victory for Spain offered at 5/1, followed by a 2-0 victory for Spain at 11/2.

Confederations Cup is a short tournament and every game counts. It will be interesting to see if Iker Casillas starts for Spain after being sidelined at Real Madrid for the entire 2nd half of the season. It will also be interesting to see the Suarez - Cavani attacking duo if they are selected to play for Uruguay.

This should be a very entertaining match!
